Banderas Bay Regatta RACE 1

Nine years later we are back in Banderas Bay again and racing Meshach in the BBR.  Thor has been thinking about this for probably just as long.  The idea of racing our home made me feel a little nervous but it was fun to see how well we did against boast that were decades younger than us substantially more modern.  I must say that Meshach  Rocks!  The  original design and forward thinking of the builder and a lot of recent TLC (aka 6 week haul out turned 4 years lol) has made some amazing improvements to this boat.  It was a fun time racing old and new friends as well. The first day of racing was crewed by Thor Tanya, Tristan (7) Max (7) Ethan from S/V  Eyoni and Andy from M/Y Tully.  Race results are posted in the link for all Thor's racing friends at home , but the short version is Meshach  was over the line early... due to color blindness of the starting mark actually the guys didn't follow the direction... What is  it with guys and directions  ha ha ha ... but even after a restart we placed  1st  in race one..

The wind has backed off and it sounds as if the last few days at sea might just be the most enjoyable. For the first time since leaving Cabo San Lucas all the sails are flying. Both the main sails are flying high and the spinnaker is full. Yesterday they caught a nice Mahi Mahi that they cooked up breaded style and will have the rest today. With the wind and sea calming down it has given them the energy to do some domestics including showers, sheet changes and for at least Thor a clean shave. He is getting a little bit of badgering from the crew for not conforming to their pirate ways. What now?

We are finishing up what we refer to as a season.  A season for us and the majority of boats in this part of the world would be from October (when it is getting cold up north) till July or August  (when hurricane season arrives) or the weather is unbearable.  There are the few brave ones who will head north into the Sea and avoid the hurricanes and into cooler water.  For us the season ends in August.  We will leave Meshach in Mexico and head home via Airliner to Hawaii to re-group, see family, maintenance on the house, paper works and business that can't be done from the boat. People ask us why we chose Mexico as a place to visit, live, sail... The answer is we love it. We love to travel experience new places, new people, live simple, spend time with our kids while they are still young and we relatively young.  The list goes on.  We love the adventure and the challenge and the pure simplicity of it and the lesson that you can live with so...

Creatures of the Sea in Puerto Vallarta

We saw some whales when we sailed to Punta de Mita. The Humpback Whales are here to have their calves. The whales were really close to Meshach and we had fun watching them. My favorite animal was the sea turtles. I got to hold and release the baby sea turtles that were only 24 hours old. I hope my turtle makes it and I hope that all the other turtles make it. Only 1 in 100 usually make it. It was cute to see them walk into the sea at sunset. Later we saw them hatching out of the nest. The nest is a hole in the sand that is two feet down. They are underground for 45-60 days. I also saw puffer fish, dolphins and bat rays. I love sea creatures. By Tristan Temme
